Epson Stylus SX200 – Good value all round

Epson have always offered good value all-in-one printers but their new Stylus SX200 seams to be a step up in terms of build quality compared to the previous models. One thing the wasn’t changed from previous models is the price of the printer cartridges which are still pretty expensive compared to the price of the itself but actually quite reasonable compared to the competition. A set of Epson SX200 ink cartridges costs around £30 if bought in a multi-pack but you can buy compatible Epson ink cartridges for half that. With the compatible ink cartridges being such great value makes the Epson SX200 a very attractive proposition, but is it any good in terms of performance? On paper the SX200 looks impressive with a maximum print resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi and a maximum printing speed of 34ppm (pages per minute) in reality the high print resolution means great print quality for all types of documents but the claim of 34ppm is greatly exaggerated because the real figure is more like 4ppm. The SX200 also does scanning and copying up to A4 both of which is does to a good standard. The copier is one of the features of the SX200 that works without the need for a PC and the other is direct photo printing from memory card which is thanks to its built-in memory card reader. Although the build quality has improved the high operation noise found in previous models still present with the SX200. In short the Epson SX200 is a good buy if you’re looking for a versatile device and value for money.
